Wydad Athletic Club have completed the signing of Olympique de Safi midfielder Abdelghafour Lamirate on a three-year deal, following the expiry of his contract.
The 27-year-old joins on a free transfer after playing a key role in OCS’s Throne Cup win over RS Berkane.
Lamirate had been in talks with several clubs, including Raja Casablanca and RS Berkane in recent weeks, but negotiations stalled – clearing the way for Wydad to finalise the deal swiftly.
Since joining OCS in 2021 from Ben Guerir, Lamirate established himself as a key figure, dictating the rhythm between attack and defence and earning the trust of his coaches.
In a farewell post on Facebook, Lamirate wrote: “To the dear fans of Asfi… You are the true heart of this team. Your love and support have always been my primary motivation on the field. Your words, your chants, your loyalty… all of this has given me strength in the toughest moments.”
Lamirate is expected to join Wydad’s pre-season training camp in the coming days as the club look to bounce back from a trophyless campaign.
