Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Garcia has won the Golden Boot at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the US, finishing as the tournament’s top scorer.
The 21-year-old scored four goals during the tournament but edged out fellow scorers Marcus Leonardo, Serhiy Kryvtsov and Ángel Di María thanks to an additional assist and a superior goal-per-minute ratio.
This year’s edition was the first expanded edition of the FIFA Club World Cup tournament, which included 32 teams from six federations.
Garcia, despite his limited experience with the first team, has helped Real Madrid reach the semi-finals and made a name for himself on the global stage, and gained the trust of the club’s head coach Xabi Alonso.
“I had no doubts about Gonzalo. What he’s doing isn’t a surprise,” Alonso told reporters after Madrid’s match against Red Bull Salzburg.
“[Garcia has] done it many times at Castilla. At least for him. He’s the typical number nine, who knows how to wait for his opportunity, who moves well.”
“I’m very happy for him, he has Raul qualities in his movements”, he added.
