Senegal face stern test against Congo in Group D battle

Reigning African Nations Championship (CHAN) champions Senegal will look to secure their place in the quarter-finals when they take on Congo at Aman Stadium in Zanzibar.

Ivorian referee Clément Franklin Kpan will blow the kick-off whistle at 3:00 PM Morocco time (GMT+1). Fans can catch the action live on beIN Connect France, beIN Sports France 6 HD Max, beIN Sports MENA 6 HD, SuperSport, RTS in Sénégal, and Canal+ Sport 1 or Canal+ Sport 2 in Senegal and Congo.

Senegal coach Souleymane Diallo warned against complacency, describing the match as a potential “trap” that could jeopardise their title defence. “We sent colleagues who watched Congo’s first game, and a report was sent to me, which I exploited, and we’ll prepare our game approach based on that report,” Diallo said. “It’s a team that plays well as a unit, very resilient, and they play well on both flanks, utilising a 4-2-3-1 formation with wing-backs providing width.”

Diallo’s plan is to control possession and be ruthless in the final third, replicating the approach that delivered Senegal’s maiden CHAN crown in Algeria. Midfielder Serigne Koite, who scored the winner against Nigeria, expressed measured focus: “We wish to validate our qualification to quarterfinals.”

Congo arrive on the back of a 1-1 draw with Sudan, showing resilience to salvage a late equaliser. Head coach Barthélemy Ngatsono is clear about his team’s intent. “We didn’t come here just to watch others lift the trophy. Like every other team, we’re here for results.” Forward Japhet Mankou echoed the collective spirit: “It’s not about one player. It’s about the team… We’re fully committed to executing our game plan.”

With both sides keenly aware of what’s at stake, and with Nigeria and Sudan lurking, this first-ever CHAN meeting promises a tactical battle.

Score Prediction:

Senegal’s experience and possession play will see them win by a tight margin.

Let’s say Senegal 2–1 Congo
