Rabat – A shooting killed five people in occupied East Jerusalem, and perpetrators have been “neutralized,” Israeli authorities claimed today.
Five other people were evacuated under “serious condition”, and at least 11 people overall were injured in the attack.
Among the victim fatalities are a man and a woman in their 50s, and three men in their 30s.
Reports said that the gunmen arrived in a vehicle, opening fire at a bus station before they were killed by a security officer and a civilian.
Israel described the shooting as a suspected “terror attack,” Al Jazeera reported, quoting sources that said that the two perpetrators are from an area in the occupied West Bank.
“They say the two worked in tandem in this attack that two gunmen boarded a bus –witnesses say one of them was dressed as a ticket inspector and opened fire,” a correspondent from Al Jazeera reported.
While Hamas has not claimed official responsibility for the incident, it praised two Palestinian “resistance fighters” for the attack.
Israel closed all checkpoints between the occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank, reporting that it had reinforced forces in the region.
The recent shooting in occupied East Jerusalem comes as tensions have been flaring over Israeli Occupation Forces’ (IOF) genocidal war against civilians across Gaza.
Since dawn Moroccan time, Israel has already killed at least 21 Palestinians.
The death toll since the IOF launched its genocidal campaign in Gaza has reached at least 64,400 victims, as more civilians die of starvation.
