Rabat — French news outlet France 24 has joined a growing number of media and high-level officials who voiced positive impressions and recognition of Morocco’s efforts in revamping its sports infrastructure.

The news outlet zoomed in on Morocco’s investment in sports infrastructure as the country prepares to host Africa’s largest football competition, the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

France 24 also cited Morocco’s momentum in securing 2030 World Cup games alongside Spain and Portugal.

“Several stadiums across the kingdom have been completely renovated to meet international standards, while others have been newly built,” France 24 wrote.

It added that several others have been newly built, with nine stadiums in the country’s six main cities that will host AFCON games.

The AFCON will take place across Morocco in December and will continue until January 18. Nine stadiums will host 52 matches across six cities.

One of the largest stadiums that gave Morocco and the rest of the world butterflies is the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex, which was revealed during the Morocco vs Niger game last week.

The new stadium was rebuilt with a revamp of its capacity to host 69,000 fans.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the stadium as a “true jewel” in July.

He said that this stadium showcases the modern Morocco — “a country projecting itself into the future and choosing football to unite the world.”

France 24 cited other venues that Morocco has rebuilt and renovated, including the Rabat Olympic Stadium, an annex of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex. It currently has a capacity of 21,000 spectators.

It also highlighted the Moulay El Hassan Stadium, which will accommodate 22,000 spectators and will serve both as a venue for the AFCON 2025 opening match between Morocco and Comoros on December 21 as well as 2030 World Cup games.

“Morocco is showcasing its ambition in sports infrastructure, five years of hosting several matches,” the news outlet said.

Several other venues, like Morocco’s Adrar Stadium in Agadir, are also undergoing significant renovation as the country prepares for Africa’s largest tournament and the upcoming 2030 World Cup.

The Grand Stadium of Tangier will also be ready by the end of September, authorities said, noting that the revamped venue will have a capacity of 75,000 seats.

Beyond lauding Morocco’s stadium achievements, Infantino has also frequently emphasized the strength of Morocco’s sports development progress overall.

On August 30, Infantino said: “Football in Morocco has been making significant progress,” describing Moroccans as “football-loving people.”
