Morocco is a “long-standing ally” and a “trusted partner” to the United States in North Africa and the Middle East, underlined US Congressman Mike Lawler, while advocating for the deepening of this exceptional alliance that dates back to 1777.
“Morocco has been a consistent and trusted partner, and deepening this alliance is crucial as we face threats not only in the Middle East but also across North Africa”, stated Lawler in an article published by Daily News and titled “Alliances Abroad Keep US Safe at Home”.
Lawler, who serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee as chairman of its Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, also highlighted Morocco’s leading role in security in Africa.
Morocco has played a “pivotal role” mainly through engaging in strong military cooperation with the US and through security cooperation with African countries, he pointed out.
Referring to the “enduring friendship” between Morocco and the US, the congressman recalled the visit he made to the North African country in August at the helm of a bipartisan congressional delegation. During this visit the members of the delegation reaffirmed the United States’ recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Western Sahara.
They also highlighted the prospects for cooperation between the two countries, following talks in Rabat with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita.
