Rabat – A military delegation from Niger arrived in Morocco for a week-long visit to discuss cooperation and ways to strengthen relations further.

Army Corps General Mohammed  Berrid received the high-level military delegation led by Niger’s Division General Moussa Salaou Barmou.

Buried received Barmou under King Mohammed VI’s instructions, noted a statement by the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces (FAR). The two officers discussed the exceptional quality of relations between the two armies, it said. They hailed the rapidly improving ties between Niamey and Rabat, stressing that the relationship between the two countries is “based on strong fraternal ties and a military cooperation marked by mutual respect.”

The statement also recalled cooperation that spanned over a range of other sectors, like exchange of visits and expertise between the two armies, in addition to training operational preparation for forces and military health.

The meeting comes as Sahel countries regard Morocco as an essential partner as they navigate a delicate situation for national security and sovereignty.  In recent years and months, Morocco has intensified efforts to contribute to peacekeeping and regional stability.

The Sahel has long been a major concern for the international community due to conflicts, as well as terrorist groups and criminal gangs involved in human and drug trafficking.

Morocco boasts one of the region’s most experienced and capable militaries, with the kingdom having considerably invested in upgrading its military facilities and equipment.

In January, the Global Firepower report ranked Morocco as the 59th powerful military worldwide in 2025 out of 145 countries assessed.

Meanwhile, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) highlighted earlier this week that Morocco’s military spending increased by 2.6% in 2024.
