Strong Storms Expected in Several Provinces Across Morocco

The affected provinces include Oued Ed-Dahab, Aousserd, and Boujdour.

Rabat – The Moroccan National Meteorology Directorate has issued an orange-level alert for heavy thunderstorms expected in several regions of the country from Tuesday to Thursday.

According to the warning, strong thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are expected in the southern provinces of Oued Ed-Dahab and Aousserd. 

Rainfall in these areas could reach 30 to 40 millimeters from Tuesday at 6 p.m. until Wednesday at noon, and 50 to 80 millimeters from Wednesday at noon to Thursday at 11 p.m.

The forecast also warns of thunderstorms in Boujdour province, with rainfall between 20 and 30 millimeters from Wednesday at noon to Thursday at 11 p.m.

For Tuesday, the weather service expects thunderstorms starting around midday in the far south of Morocco. Partly cloudy skies with scattered rain are forecast along the Mediterranean coast and the northwest of the southern provinces. Fog is also expected along the central coast.

Strong winds accompanied by dust are predicted in the southern part of the Eastern region and the far south of the country. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions during the stormy period.

Temperatures will range between 6°C and 12°C in the Atlas and Rif mountains, and between 14°C and 21°C in the rest of the country. Daytime temperatures are expected to rise slightly in the northwest and in the southern part of the Eastern region.

Sea conditions will vary, as it will be calm along the Mediterranean coast, calm to slightly choppy in the Strait of Gibraltar, and rough to very rough between Mahdia and Tarfaya. Other coastal areas will see slightly choppy to rough seas.
