The Executive Bureau of the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT) has expressed solidarity with the “just and legitimate” social demands raised by young people, while stressing the importance of preserving the peaceful nature of the ongoing protests.
In a statement issued following its meeting on Wednesday, the CDT explained that these demands primarily concern improving public health services, ensuring quality in public education, and creating employment opportunities.
The union also urged the launch of a genuine national dialogue capable of addressing the social concerns expressed by the youth.
Such a process, it said, should lead to concrete measures aimed at improving citizens’ material and social conditions, guaranteeing the quality of public services, and safeguarding existing social gains.
This statement comes amid the ongoing Gen Z-led protests across Morocco, where young demonstrators have been calling for fundamental rights, including access to quality healthcare, education, and a dignified standard of living.
While the protests began peacefully, some episodes have turned violent, a development that runs against the spirit of the Gen Z movement itself, whose initiators, known as Gen Z 212, have consistently stressed their commitment to maintaining a peaceful and disciplined form of mobilization.
