Adidas has released the official match ball for the 2026 FIFA World Cup: TRIONDA – a four-panel design that combines cultural symbolism with innovation. The ball will be used across the expanded tournament hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Adidas has been the official supplier of World Cup match balls since 1970 and launched Trionda in early October. The name is a combination of “tri” (three hosts) and “onda” (wave) in Spanish. The red, green and blue “arms” are tied to the colours and icons of the host countries.
Stars represent the US, a maple leaf for Canada, and an eagle for Mexico with gold detailing on the trophy.
Trionda follows a long line of iconic World Cup match balls from the Telstar in 1970 to the fan favourite 2014’s Brazuca and 2022’s Al Rihla.

Design and technology of the 2026 World Cup ball
Trionda has a four-panel construction, which means it’s made from just four pieces of material as opposed to the multi-paneled designs of traditional balls. It has a matte surface and embossed graphics for better grip even in wet conditions.
The ball also has a side-mounted sensor chip that transmits up to 500 signals per second. This live-tracking technology is designed to improve VAR accuracy for offside and handball calls and to deliver performance data to coaches and analysts.
Unlike the 2022 World Cup ball which had a central suspension system for the sensor, Trionda has the chip on the side for better balance. Adidas already tested the ball in different climates and altitudes across North America from Vancouver to Mexico City to ensure the consistent flight and feel.
Adidas executives highlighted both the cultural and technical aspects of the design. Solène Störmann, Global Category Director for Football Hardware told Fox Sport: “Each arm is dedicated to each host nation and reunites in the middle of the ball in the form of a triangle, which showcases how they’re hosting the World Cup together.”
