Rabat – Jordi Alba will announce his retirement from professional football after Inter Miami finishes its MLS playoff run. He’s the second-closest teammate of Lionel Messi to announce retirement this year, following Sergio Busquets.
The 36-year-old shared the news on Tuesday, just days after Busquets’ retirement ceremony. Though his contract ran until 2027, Alba has decided to end his career now.

The Spanish left-back joined Inter Miami shortly after Messi’s move in June 2023. His arrival was part of a wave that brought former Barcelona teammates Busquets, Luis Suárez, and Alba to MLS.
“The time has come to close a truly meaningful chapter in my life,” Alba said on social media.
“I’ve decided to bring my professional football career to an end at the conclusion of this season, I do so with complete conviction, with peace and with happiness because I feel I’ve walked this path with every ounce of passion I had, and now it’s just the right moment to open a new chapter and close the previous one with the best possible feeling.”
His former teammate and eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi expressed his feelings through an Instagram page, “Thanks to you, Jordi. I’m going to miss you so much. After so much together, it’s going to feel strange to look to my left and not see you there… unbelievable how many assists you gave me all these years. Who’s gonna give me back passes now???”
