Indian Embassy Hosts Sufi Concert in Rabat

Rabat — The Embassy of India in Rabat, in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), hosted an enchanting evening of Sufi devotional music on Thursday at the Salle Bahnini in Rabat.

The event celebrated India’s rich cultural heritage and the universal language of spirituality expressed through music.

The Anwar Sabri Brothers, known for their mastery of traditional Qawwali, filled the hall with powerful vocals, rhythmic clapping, and harmonium melodies that transcended time and touched the soul.

The Sabri Brothers, hailing from Kalyana in East Punjab (now part of Haryana, India), were pioneers in bringing qawwali to global audiences.

Initially known as the Bacha Qawwal Party, the group was founded by Maqbool Ahmed Sabri at the age of 11.

Their music, characterized by powerful vocals and rhythmic intensity, played a significant role in popularizing qawwali beyond the confines of Sufi shrines.

Notable compositions include “Tajdar-e-Haram,” “Bhar Do Jholi Meri,” and “Anwar-e-Muhammad Se,” which have left an indelible mark on the genre

Diplomats, artists, and cultural enthusiasts attended the concert, which reflected the spirit of harmony and cultural exchange between India and Morocco.

In his remarks, a representative of the Indian Embassy highlighted the importance of such cultural events in strengthening ties between the two nations through shared artistic expression and mutual respect.

On the other hand, India’s Second Secretary Amit Get shared his thoughts on the series with MWN.

Get expressed appreciation for Morocco’s cooperation and the deepening artistic exchange between India and Morocco stating, “The Embassy of India is very thankful to the Kingdom of Morocco and the Ministry of Culture for providing all the support and facilities to our cultural delegation.”

Speaking at the concert in Rabat, Zakaria Kwyasse, partner of the Wisdom and Leadership Caravan, shared his gratitude for the soulful evening.

“India amazed us tonight with this brother, Zel Kabir, who came all the way from India to delight us,” he said, expressing appreciation for the Embassy and Professor Kumar’s support.

Kwyasse also announced that the Wisdom and Leadership Caravan is embarking on its first edition across Morocco. “We’re going to five cities, Tangier, Marrakech, Essaouira, and the closing will happen in Casablanca on November 6, at the occasion of the Green March’s 50th anniversary,” he revealed.

He concluded by thanking the Embassy of India for “the amazing vibes and energy” shared during the event.

The evening ended with a warm round of applause as the audience stood to honor the performers, marking yet another successful cultural initiative by the Indian Embassy in Rabat and the ICCR.
