Rabat – Barcelona has shown interest in signing Moroccan forward Yassir Zabiri after his standout performance at the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2025 in Chile.
Zabiri played a key role in Morocco’s historic title win, scoring both goals in the 2–0 final victory over Argentina.
According to Africafoot, Barcelona officials have contacted Famalicão, Zabiri’s current club in Portugal, to explore a possible transfer.
The 20-year-old forward has also attracted interest from Benfica, reflecting his rising value in European football.
Zabiri, born in 2005 in Marrakesh, began his football journey at the Mohammed VI Football Academy, Morocco’s top youth development center.
The academy is known for producing elite talent, and it helped Zabiri refine his skills as a fast, goal-oriented winger.
In early 2024, Zabiri made his senior debut with Union Touarga in Morocco’s Botola Pro.
He played 11 matches, scored three goals, and quickly gained attention for his pace and decision-making in the final third.
Later in August 2024, Zabiri signed with Famalicão, a first-tier Portuguese club. He was given shirt number 21 and signed a contract running until June 2028.
At the U20 World Cup, Zabiri impressed with his speed, sharp finishing, and ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
Zabiri scored five goals in the tournament, including a brace in the final, and was one of the top performers throughout Morocco’s run. He also won the second-best player after Othmane Maamma.
