Rabat – Ten people were injured on Monday evening following a bus accident in the Safi region, according to local health authorities.
The incident occurred between the Al-Ghayat and Baraka Lamine areas and involved a vehicle transporting agricultural workers.
Aziz Makhlouf, a representative of the Ministry of Health in Safi, confirmed that ten women working on a nearby farm, along with the driver, sustained injuries of varying severity.
“All cases were transported to Mohammed V Regional Hospital, where the victims are receiving the necessary medical care,” Makhlouf told SNRTnews. He added that the injured individuals remain under observation until their conditions stabilize.
Local authorities have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
In recent months, Morocco has recorded a noticeable number of serious traffic incidents, which points to renewed urgency for public safety action.
In 2024, the year culminated in 4,024 deaths from road accidents, up 5.37% from the year before.
The first half of 2025 has shown an even sharper rise. Between January and May alone, 1,624 people died on Moroccan roads, marking a 20.9% increase compared to the same period last year. Over 4,000 others suffered severe injuries, a rise of more than 21%.
In response to these trends, authorities have taken several tangible steps. They have rolled out enhanced traffic surveillance measures, including speed checks for motorcycles and diplomatic-plated vehicles, in line with broader efforts to reduce accident rates.
While these measures reflect institutional commitment, the scale of the challenge remains enormous.
