Marrakech – Local development company Tanja Mobilité has officially launched the “Accès Stade” application site. This digital tool provides real-time information on access procedures to the Grand Stade de Tanger during major sporting events.
The innovative service has been deployed ahead of the inaugural Morocco-Mozambique match scheduled for November 14 at 8:00 p.m. This game will mark the grand reopening of Tangier’s stadium following extensive modernization works that lasted nearly 28 months.
“Accès Stade” centralizes all practical information for spectators to reach the stadium with ease. Through a clear and accessible interface, citizens and visitors can find up-to-date details about public parking locations near the Grand Stade and direct access routes from major highways.
The portal provides information about the free bus service established on event days to facilitate supporter transportation.
Shuttle buses will operate round trips connecting relay parking areas to the stadium. These include parking facilities at Route de Rabat, La Corniche, Merkala, Place de La Ligue arabe (Riad Tétouan), and the high-speed train (LGV) station.
Transportation services will begin at 3:00 p.m. on match days. The shuttles will efficiently transport ticket-holding spectators to the stadium entrance and return them after the event.
The site also offers alternative route recommendations for motorists not attending the match. This aims to improve traffic flow around the sports zone during periods of exceptional attendance.
The portal indicates temporary diversions and bypass routes activated in coordination with local authorities to minimize impact on urban mobility.
Tangier’s revamped stadium stands ready for AFCON
Formerly known as Ibn-Batouta Stadium, the venue was closed for significant renovation work to host matches for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025. The continental tournament will run from December 21 to January 18 in Morocco.
The stadium, located in southwest Tangier and originally inaugurated in April 2011, has undergone major transformations. The former athletics track has been removed and the capacity increased to over 75,000 seats. The stadium is named after a 14th-century Moroccan explorer.
During AFCON 2025, the venue will host three Group D matches: Senegal-Botswana (December 23), Senegal-DR Congo (December 27), and Benin-Senegal (December 30). It will also host an eighth-final, a quarter-final, and a semi-final match.
The stadium will later serve as a venue for the 2030 World Cup, which will be co-organized by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.
Final preparations for the opening ceremony are now complete. All essential installations, both outside and inside the venue, have been positioned according to plan.
Technical and engineering teams have conducted final checks on lighting, sound systems, and stage devices, as well as the natural turf, which has been maintained with particular care.
Dozens of high-definition cameras have been installed at various points throughout the stadium. Light displays, giant screens, and equipment for musical performances are also in place.
The final adjustments were made the day before the opening under the guidance of a Moroccan technical team determined to deliver an impressive show for Africa and the world.
