Rabat – Rabat has just hosted the launch of a new women in football leadership training, bringing together 20 female coaches from across Morocco for a week of workshops, training, and exchanges.
The training is called “International Expert Training – Female Leaders in Football” and is part of the Sport for Development (S4D) project run by the German development agency GIZ. It is implemented in partnership with several key Moroccan and international partners, including: the National Women’s Football League (LNFF), the Moroccan National Olympic Committee (CNOM), the regional directorate and delegation of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication (Rabat–Salé–Kénitra), and the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).
According to GIZ Morocco, the goal is simple but ambitious: to make these 20 women stronger leaders on and off the pitch, so they can turn football fields into spaces for equality, confidence and new opportunities for young girls.

The program includes sessions on: leadership and communication, managing and motivating teams, designing inclusive training sessions, and using football to work on life skills like self-confidence, respect and teamwork.
But beyond the content of the training, the atmosphere of the week is just as important. Participants will have the chance to share their daily realities as coaches in different Moroccan regions, compare with international experts and build a network that will support them long after the training is over.
Morocco has seen a real rise in the visibility of women’s football in recent years, including hosting the U-17 Women’s World Cup and strong performances from the women’s national team. This is another step forward. It shows that developing the women’s game is not just about players and competitions but also about investing in the women who coach, organize and lead.
Football here is more than a sport: it becomes a tool to promote gender equality and inclusive leadership. This training in Rabat is to make sure more women are in a position to drive that change.
