Rabat – The 7th national congress of Morocco’s trade union has appointed Khalid Alami Houir as the new Secretary General of the Democratic Confederation of Labour (CDT).
The national congress took place from November 28-30. Hour succeeds Abdelkader Zaer, who led the CDT since November 218.
Following his appointment, Houir expressed satisfaction and commended the success of the congress that took place in Bouznika.
This congress confirms that the CDT will remain a “strongly committed national trade union organization, fully mobilized to defend the country’s causes and the rights of the working class,” he said, reaffirming his and CDT’s commitment to continue its activist path.
“We are not on the verge of major challenges, and we hope that social issues will be addressed seriously, respecting the will of the working class and guaranteeing union freedoms.”
In a statement, CDT said its establishment aims to meaningfully respond to social developments in Morocco. The federation’s goal is to give the working class a “central role” in the country’s social, political, and cultural arenas.
It ultimately hopes to eliminate forms of class exploitation and social oppression, the statement concluded.
