Rabat – Moroccan karate champion Saïd Oubaya gave a top-notch performance yesterday at the 2025 Karate World Championships in Cairo, picking up a silver medal in the men’s -67 kg kumite category – and it was really intense until the end. He made it all the way to the final where he came up against Jordan’s Afeef Ghaith, unfortunately losing the bout 6-0.

It’s clear Oubaya’s been carrying himself at a really high level over the last few years, and  his run to the final in Cairo showed he’s still one of the top performers in his weight class. Throughout the tournament he really impressed with his speed, precision, and tactics.

The 2025 World Championships were an important tournament for the region. Cairo’s hosting was a big deal for African competitors, and especially as it was the first time the event has been hosted on the continent in a while.

Congratulations to our karate champion Saïd OUBAYA (-67 kg) for winning the silver medal at the Senior World Championships held from November 27 to 30 in Cairo 💪🥋🇲🇦#TeamMorocco #Karate #SilverMedal #WorldChampionships pic.twitter.com/HhxmXAT8bH

Oubaya’s silver medal is just the icing on the cake for what’s already been a fantastic year for him. Back in March he picked up gold in the same weight class (-67 kg) at the Karate 1 Premier League event in Hangzhou, China – talk about a winning streak. This really cements his status as a top international karateka.

With Oubaya on the podium, Morocco gains a strong foothold in the world of karate. His achievement keeps adding to the growing reputation of Moroccan athletes in international martial arts.
