Rabat – The Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication’s Department of Communication has introduced a new platform, Moroccan Video Games, which highlights locally developed titles and offers national visibility to emerging creators.

Launched last month on the MGI website, the page serves as the first official directory dedicated to video games made in Morocco. It currently features five titles from Moroccan developers and studios.

The initiative provides a structured pathway for creators to present their work. Developers can submit information about their game, including team names, platforms, engine used, trailers, and category tags.

Each submission receives its own descriptive page on the site. The ministry describes the project as a national showcase designed to support young developers and strengthen recognition of “Made in Morocco” within the growing gaming sector.

A developing sector backed by expanding market interest

The launch comes as Morocco’s gaming ecosystem continues to grow. Recent reporting estimates the domestic video-game market at MAD 2.24 billion, reflecting strong local engagement with digital entertainment.

While consumption remains high, production has historically been limited, with most players turning to international titles rather than local creations.

By offering a central platform for Moroccan-made games, the initiative aims to narrow that gap and encourage more structured development.

It also aligns with broader public efforts to support digital industries. In recent years, authorities have announced plans for dedicated training programs and creative-tech infrastructure, including the development of a gaming hub intended to bring studios, talent, and related services into one space.

Industry observers note that despite rising interest, several challenges continue to shape the sector. Many Moroccan developers work in small teams with limited financial resources, and access to specialized training remains uneven.

Competing in the global market also presents difficulties for independent creators seeking visibility and distribution.

Even so, initiatives like Moroccan Video Games represent a step toward organizing the local industry and improving access to national exposure.

The platform offers a public reference point for Moroccan titles at a time when government institutions are showing increased attention to the potential of creative digital fields.
