Marrakech – A day before the much-anticipated final of the FIFA Arab Cup, which will oppose the Atlas Lions to Jordan at Lusail Stadium in Qatar, Jamal Sellami addressed the media, voicing a clear desire to see his side go all the way.
Reminding journalists of Jordan’s 1-3 defeat to Qatar at the 2023 Asian Cup Final, Sellami says Jordan’s final run must be crowned with a victory this time.
“A final is meaningful only if we win it,” Sellami said. “Jordan already played the Asian Cup final here in Doha, without winning. That is why we need this title more than Morocco.”
Sellami explained that a win would be a greater boost for Jordanian football, in comparison to the already decorated Moroccan program.
“Morocco has won multiple titles and obtained major results in recent years, including at the world stage,” Sellami rationalized. “For us, winning the Arab Cup would represent a decisive push for the future of Jordanian football.”

Sellami, a former Moroccan international and previous coach of the Moroccan A’ National team from 2016 to 2018, says his love for his home country is undeniable.
“Nobody can question my love for Morocco, nor my pride in being Moroccan,” Sellami said. “I am a pure product of Moroccan football, and I’ve received all my education within it, which allows me to be at this level, today.”
Nevertheless, Sellami sought to clarify that his professional integrity remains unaffected.
“No one can doubt my integrity, nor my loyalty towards my work,” the former Atlas Lions midfielder said. “Ahead of everything, I am looking to win.”
Sellami also had high praise for his “friend and brother” Tarik Sektioui, who will be in charge of the other bench in tomorrow’s final.
“In my eyes, Tarik Sektioui is the future coach of the Moroccan national team. In two years, he won bronze at the Paris Olympics and won the African Nations Championship (CHAN),” Sellami outlined. “A second place at the Arab Cup wouldn’t hurt him at all.”
Sektioui and Sellami have faced off seven times so far in their respective managerial careers, with four victories for the latter and three draws. Sellami hopes to grab a fifth win tomorrow, stating that his team has what it takes to “compete until the end.”
The FIFA Arab Cup Final will kick off tomorrow, December 18, at 5 p.m. GMT+1 (Morocco time).
