Marrakech – “Within the next 10 years, Morocco will win the World Cup.” Those were the words of the French journalist Geoffroy Garetieron on yesterday night’s Late Football Club show on Canal+ Foot.
Garretier, an emblematic figure of the French football media landscape, having previously served as Editor in Chief of L’Equipe, was full of praise for the development of Moroccan football over recent years.
Speaking on Moroccan stadiums, Garretier said Morocco’s infrastructure now rivaled that of big European nations.
“It’s not makeshift anymore, with pitches that are half dirt,” Garetier said. “Today, Morocco has real facilities, worthy of the major European countries.”

Garetier voiced a wish to see the final of the 2030 World Cup, set to be co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, organized at the Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca.
“I hope it won’t be at Camp Nou or at the Bernabeu, because we’ve already seen that,” the analyst said. “A final at Casablanca’s future Hassan II Stadium would be wonderful. The biggest football stadium in the world, then. Moroccans deserve to organize a World Cup final and not simply a few games.”
Beyond the infrastructure, Garetier also stated his admiration for the Atlas Lions roster, citing the rich depth of talents at Walid Regragui’s disposal.
“The roster is great. There’s Hakimi, who’s the African Ballon d’Or, but there’s also players developed in the Netherlands, Spain, and France,” Garetier stated.
The analyst says Morocco will be in a position to win the World Cup within the next 10 years, circling in particular the 2034 World Cup, set to be hosted by Saudi Arabia.
“[In 2026,] I expect them to make it to the Round of 16 or the Quarter-Finals. In 2030, I see them in the semi-finals, just like 2022, in Qatar. I’m more so thinking of 2034,” Garetier said.
“Sincerely, it’s my bet. I think I’ll win it. Within the next ten years, Morocco will win the World Cup.”
The Atlas Lions will take on Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti in June to start their 2026 World Cup journey in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
