Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch chaired a working session on Wednesday in Rabat to review the strategic plan of the National Company for Sports Facilities Realization and Management (SONARGES) and monitor progress on major projects upgrading Morocco’s sports infrastructure.

The meeting, attended by Education, Preschool, and Sports Minister Mohamed Saad Berrada, featured a presentation by SONARGES Managing Director Youssef Belqasmi on the company’s strategic plan based on capitalizing existing achievements and enhancing human capital.

Belqasmi outlined the strategy to strengthen territorial presence across different regions of the country through developing new offerings serving the population. He pointed to progress in stadium upgrades for hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The SONARGES director detailed the governance model adopted and the technical, administrative, and financial monitoring mechanisms established to ensure optimal implementation of these projects.

He noted the permanent coordination between SONARGES, all relevant ministerial departments, and institutional and sports partners.

Akhannouch recalled the high solicitude with which King Mohammed VI surrounds the sports sector through mobilizing necessary means for infrastructure realization and sports equipment installation across different regions of the country.

The prime minister called for accelerating SONARGES’ action dynamics through implementing the strategic plan to enable new momentum capable of strengthening national sports infrastructure and making it a factor promoting integrated territorial development.

SONARGES manages over 78 sports facilities across six regions since its establishment in 2008. The company plays a central role in Morocco’s preparations for major international sporting events and nationwide sports infrastructure development.

The session focused on ensuring coordinated implementation of projects supporting Morocco’s ambitions to host world-class sporting events while developing local sports capabilities nationwide.
