Rabat – Morocco’s Brahim Diaz continues to make headlines with his impressive form at the ongoing AFCON, with more plaudits pouring in following his stunning goal that helped the Atlas Lions seal their ticket to the quarterfinals.
ESPN is among the sports websites that commended Diaz’s performance during the match, describing him as the outstanding contender for the Player of the Tournament.
Diaz continues to lead the list of top scorers of the AFCON, having scored four goals out of the four games Morocco has played so far.
“Diaz, the outstanding contender for the Player of the Tournament so far, extended his run of scoring in every match at the competition as he opened the scoring in the 64th minute, beating Tanzania goalkeeper Hussein Masalanga at his near post,” ESPN wrote.
His dedication of his winning goal against Tanzania to his teammate Azzedine Ounahi was also a spectacular display of class and team solidarity, the outlet added.
ESPN also emphasized how Ounahi’s absence significantly affected Morocco’s game, with the Atlas Lions losing some of their momentum.
Ouhanhi sustained a calf muscle injury that ruled him out of the tournament.
In his absence, Morocco lacked the control, intervention, and change of pace in the game against Tanzania, ESPN noted.
Morocco will play its quarterfinal game against Cameroon on Friday at 8 p.m. The match will take place at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
