Under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Morocco has established itself as a “pillar of stability, moderation, and forward-looking leadership,” said Rudolph Atallah, Principal Deputy Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council, during remarks delivered Tuesday evening in Washington.
Speaking before members of Congress, political figures, and diplomats at a gala hosted at the US Congress to mark the historic ties and strategic partnership between Rabat and Washington, Atallah said Morocco has continued to strengthen its role in a complex region.
He added that the King’s vision has deepened cooperation between Morocco and the United States across security, economic development, and regional coordination.
Describing Morocco as a dependable partner, the senior White House official noted that “when challenges arise (…) Morocco has always shown reliability and responded in a discreet, professional, and consistent manner.” He stressed that the relationship is not an “alliance of convenience,” but one built on trust and shared responsibility.
“As someone who has devoted his life to security and partnerships, I can say with certainty that Morocco is not only one of the United States’ oldest and best allies, but also its most reliable,” Atallah said.
“Today, we honor a relationship forged over centuries and reaffirm our commitment to carry it forward together,” he concluded.
The gala, held under the banner of Project Legacy Morocco, brought together more than 200 guests, including senators, members of Congress, senior military officials, diplomats, and representatives of the Moroccan-American community.
The level of participation reflected broad bipartisan support for Morocco among US decision-makers and the depth of the partnership linking Rabat and Washington, often cited as a model of cooperation grounded in a clear vision and sustained commitment.
During the event, Republican and Democratic lawmakers alike referred to the long-standing friendship between the two countries, recalling its origins in Morocco’s historic decision in 1777 to become the first nation to recognize the independence of the United States.
