Rabat – Morocco has brought its US wheat procurement for the 2025 season to a close, with a total of 61,700 tons delivered between early June and mid-December, according to figures from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

All contracted shipments arrived on time, a result that places Morocco among the top African importers that fully met their obligations for this campaign.

Market analysts cited by an agricultural consultancy note that Morocco ranks third on the continent among countries that not only signed purchase agreements for US wheat but also completed delivery without setbacks.

This outcome shows careful oversight of supply chains and contract execution at a moment when several African markets continue to face delays and logistical disruptions.

USDA data show that Morocco stands out as one of the few importers that followed its US wheat purchases through to full delivery within the same season.

The development coincides with a strong rise in US wheat exports to Africa during the 2025/26 campaign, which reached 1.71 million tons so far, up sharply from 450,000 tons a year earlier.

Nigeria leads African imports with about 1.19 million tons, followed by South Africa, while demand also grows in countries such as Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire.

Alongside its US purchases, Morocco prepares to source about 3.5 million tons of French soft wheat during the 2025/26 season.

Authorities view this approach as a way to spread supply risks and maintain steady deliveries in an international market marked by price volatility and transport uncertainty.
