Rabat-Senegal are the 2025 AFCON champions after a dramatic 1-0 victory over hosts Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, winning their second continental title following their first triumph in 2021.
The match was tense from the first minute. Morocco looked dangerous throughout, with Yassine Bounou making several key saves to keep the Atlas Lions in the game. In the 65th minute, Neil El Aynaoui had a frightening moment after a mid-air collision with a Senegalese defender while challenging for a header. He was bleeding and visibly shaken, but after being bandaged, he continued playing, showing his courage and importance to the team.
Morocco had a golden chance late in the game when a penalty was awarded, but heartbreakingly, Brahim Díaz missed, sending the ball wide. The moment left Moroccan fans stunned, and it proved costly.

Tensions flared heavily before the Moroccan penalty. Senegalese players initially refused to accept the VAR-confirmed decision, surrounding the referee and moving toward the tunnel in protest. Sadio Mané stepped in to calm his teammates, allowing the game to continue and gop to extra time.
Senegal lift the trophy for the second time, having previously won in 2021. For Morocco, it’s heartbreak at home, with their last AFCON title dating back to 1976.
