Agadir – On January 31, Morocco’s dam reservoirs exceeded 10 billion cubic meters, reflecting a remarkable 120% increase compared with the same period last year. The overall national filling rate reached 61.3%, up from 27.6% in January 2025, driven by heavy inflows in recent weeks across multiple basins.

Major dams record significant inflows

Several key dams have recorded substantial inflows in recent days.

Al Wahda Dam received 164.7 million cubic meters, reaching 90.9% capacity; Idriss I Dam added 28 million cubic meters, now at 65.1%.

Dar Khrofa Dam recorded 25.9 million cubic meters, filling to 59.6%. Mohammed V Dam collected 15.5 million cubic meters, reaching 89.7% full.

In the middle Atlas (Azilal), Bin El Ouidane Dam added 14.2 million cubic meters, now at 42.3%.
Settat Province: Al Massira Dam increased by 11.4 million cubic meters, with a 14.8% filling rate.

These inflows reflect a continued trend of replenishment observed since the start of the hydrological season, although distribution remains uneven across regions.

Regional overview

North and Northwest: The Sebou basin stands at 81% capacity (4,503.5 million cubic meters), driven by Al Wahda and secondary reservoirs. The Loukkos basin reaches 79.6% (1,521.5 million cubic meters), with several dams fully filled, highlighting a strong water situation in the region.

Bouregreg and Tensift: Bouregreg is nearly saturated at 94.9% (1,027.9 million cubic meters)  while the Tensift basin holds 81.5% (185.3 million cubic meters), ensuring improved water security for central Morocco.

Central and Northeast: Oum Er-Rbia is at 33.2% (1,648.3 million cubic meters), and Moulouya at 50.7% (363.6 million cubic meters), showing progress despite lower levels compared with northern basins.

Southern and Arid Zones: Souss-Massa’s reservoirs are at 53.6% (392.5 million cubic meters), Guir-Ziz-Ghéris at 58.2% (312.9 million cubic meters), and Draa-Oued Noun at 31.6% (331.2 million cubic meters), reflecting a gradual replenishment of areas that usually face water stress.
