Rabat – Wydad Casablanca secured qualification to the CAF Confederation Cup knockout stages after beating Azam FC 2-0 at Stade Mohammed V on Sunday in the sixth and final round of the group stage.
The game was tight in the first half, with neither side able to break through. Wydad kept control of possession and pushed forward after the break.
The hard-fought breakthrough came in the 64th minute when Azam defender Pascal Msindo scored an own goal to put the home side ahead. Substitute Walid Nassi sealed the win with a late strike in stoppage time, confirming Wydad’s place at the top of Group B.

The win lifts Wydad to 15 points, securing first place in Group B and a spot in the quarterfinals.
They now await the draw in Egypt on Tuesday, February 17, to discover who their opponent will be in the next round.
This result comes after a mixed run in the group stage. Wydad lost 2-1 away to Maniema Union on February 1 but had earlier beaten the Congolese side 1-0 at home on January 25.
They also defeated Azam 1-0 away in November and crushed Nairobi United 3-0 at home in the same month. More recently, they edged Nairobi 1-0 away on February 8 before closing out the group with Sunday’s win against Azam.
Across the campaign, Wydad showed resilience after setbacks and lost only one game, maintaining control of the group.
Against Azam, they dominated possession with 60% and created more chances, registering eight shots on target compared to just one for Azam. The performance reflected their ability to impose their style of play.
The qualification marks an important step for the Moroccan giants, who are aiming to add another continental trophy to their history. With 15 points from six matches, Wydad head into the knockout stages as one of the strongest sides in the competition.
