Rabat – The excellent article by Dr. Hassan Hami, entitled “Programmed Disorder: Clamor and Tailored Execution,” published in Médias24 on February 26, 2026, refers to unusual geopolitical upheavals characterized by dynamics that the world has experienced over recent decades.
These dynamics are marked by extraordinary violations and unilateral actions aimed at reshaping the global order, often imposed selectively, unilaterally, and in a “custom-made” manner.
This appropriation—or even expropriation—of geopolitical spaces for economic and geostrategic purposes reflects an individualistic and self-serving will. It encroaches upon the rights of other legitimate stakeholders—states or groupings—whose treaties, agreements, and commitments are violated. This “shift,” often carried out on the basis of declared or undeclared objectives, destabilizes previously established balances.
It is also true that the global geopolitical space is now coveted and influenced by new powers, whether established or emerging, demanding a say and consent regarding certain global decisions, measures, and approaches to manage and to govern our planet.
A Complex Collective Responsibility
This heavy and complex collective responsibility is profoundly altering the content of the global order, which must now imperatively integrate economic, military, environmental, social, and well-being dimensions, including, of course, climate change and global warming.
Certainly, provocative decisions have always existed, and this is historically normal. However, we are currently witnessing an unprecedented proliferation of ideas, speculations, and positions at multiple levels.
All this is driven by contemporary issues, the majority of which involve—directly or indirectly—the United States of America, an influential member of the United Nations Security Council. This involvement has intensified over the past two decades, gradually weakening the role of the United Nations, particularly the authority and credibility of the Security Council.
The interests defended by this major global power are economic and commercial, as well as geopolitical and strategic in nature. As a result, we observe a diversification of alliances and reinforced strategic support for so-called “organic” allies (NATO) within the framework of a new labor division, including a redeployment of military forces required by emerging global or targeted challenges.
The article by Dr. Hassan Hami cited above has thoroughly outlined and developed the major issues and initiatives underway—some already being implemented, others in preparation, reflection, or on prospective assessment.
Legitimate and Relevant Questions
Nevertheless, the analysis of these conflicts of influence, and at times subordination, raises legitimate and relevant questions. It would be useful—indeed essential—to examine their deep-rooted and underlying causes through a critical reading of the transformations currently affecting the global order.
This observation particularly addresses deviations from international legality, ambiguity and discrimination in the application of democratic concepts, and the marginalization of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which is subjected to blatant and systematic violations.
This programmed and sustained disorder challenges a number of constants and values that have historically guided and defined the global order since the Second World War.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948, in Paris, paved the way for coexistence, integration, and universal adherence to shared values across differing ideologies and political systems. Its implementation became the backbone of democracy worldwide, supported by the international community through the United Nations System (UNO).
Democracy thus became a rule, a reference, and a criterion for recognition and promotion, or, conversely, an argument for marginalization or punishment when a regime conflicted with the interests of major powers.
With the growing interference of capital and its expansionist ambitions, democracy has gradually lost its qualitative substance, sometimes allowing access to power by leaders lacking sufficient sensitivity to safeguard human rights, including environmental protection and quality of life.
In many cases, the democratic election of a political leader does not necessarily guarantee democratic behavior, as such leaders remain subject to political and economic contingencies and pressure from internal and external interest groups and alliances.
The Gaza war of October 2023 and the unconditional support of the United States for Israel opened a deep rift within American society. The right to self-defense invoked in response to the Hamas attack evolved into actions bearing genocidal characteristics, targeting innocent Palestinian populations in Gaza and the West Bank.
Biased Interpretations of Human Rights Principles
This war revealed to the American public an administration operating at multiple speeds, applying selective and preferential interpretations of human rights. These double standards generated widespread discomfort within American society, leading to protests that were, in some cases, harshly repressed.
Yet, within this contradictory context, the city of New York elected a Muslim mayor, Mr. Zohran Mamdani, a young, unifying democratic socialist whose discourse is reshaping the daily political narrative of American voters.
Are we witnessing a transformation in the sociodemographic structure of the United States? Can we expect a shift in the unconditional U.S. support for Israel? Or, conversely, an intensification of regional and sub-regional conflicts involving Israel and other actors sharing ambitions of domination and influence?
Are the new initiatives currently under construction—such as peace committees—intended to redraw the region’s geopolitical map outside the framework of the United Nations?
In light of these profound and troubling transformations, the future of the United Nations raises pressing questions: will it disappear, reform itself, or be rebuilt on new bases, and by whom and how?
As citizens of the MENA region, it is also our responsibility to reflect on the various scenarios likely to affect us and to anticipate our future positioning within global geopolitical flows, considering our strategic location and the intensity of our relationships and interactions with major powers.
The history of our country, Morocco, has been shaped by periods of upheaval and turbulence that we have managed—albeit imperfectly—to navigate, thanks to a stable political system and a balanced presence on the international stage.
This strategic capital, which we continuously seek to strengthen and to enhance, remains a guarantee of our security and stability while fructifying and promoting a balanced integration into the global order governed by consensual international relations.
