Former Prince Andrew Arrested on Suspicion of Misconduct in Office

Rabat – The former United Kingdom Prince, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was arrested on suspicions of misconduct in his previous public office roles Thursday morning for misconduct and connections to disgraced financier, Jeffrey Epstein.

The police did not name the arrested man but confirmed they had “arrested a man in his 60s from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office and are carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk.”

The police statement added: “The man remains in custody at this time.”

The arrest comes days after Buckingham Palace said it would “stand ready to support” the police and that the King had made clear his “profound concern” over his brother’s alleged actions.

The Thames valley police announced at the beginning of February they were investigating allegations that at least one woman was trafficked to the UK by Epstein for sexual encounters with Andrew. They are also reviewing claims that the former prince shared confidential information with the convicted pedophile while serving as the UK’s trade envoy.

‘The law must take its course’

Allegations of the prince’s alleged sexual assault have been public since 2015 and he was stripped of his royal titles in October 2025. Emails released by the US Department of Justice in January reprised questions of Prince Andrew’s connections to Epstein.

The newest batch of Epstein emails also exposed that the former royal potentially shared various confidential briefings on foreign governments with the convicted sex-offender and financier.

“We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time,” Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said following the arrest.

After the arrest, King Charles expressed his “deepest concern” over his brother’s arrest and alleged misconduct in public office and reiterating that the police have the monarchy’s “full and wholehearted support and co-operation.”

The monarch said in a statement: “Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.”

Virginia Giuffre’s family said in a statement that Prince Andrew’s arrest shows that “no one is above the law.”

Guiffre was one of the most well-known victims of Epstein and was allegedly sex trafficked to the Prince in 2001 when she was 17, though a confidential out-of-court settlement for a reported £12 million was made in 2022. Giuffre took her own life in April 2025.
