The 2026 Finalissima, the prestigious one‑off match between European champions Spain and South American champions Argentina, is facing uncertainty over its planned venue in Doha, Qatar.

Originally scheduled for March 27 at Lusail Stadium, the fixture was intended to serve as an elite “champions of champions” clash between two of the world’s most iconic national teams.

In recent days, the escalation of tension in the Middle East has reasonably cast doubt on Qatar’s ability to host the match on the scheduled date. Following Iran’s retaliatory missile strikes across the Arabian Peninsula and subsequent regional instability, the Qatar Football Association announced the indefinite suspension of all football competitions and matches.

As a result, UEFA, CONMEBOL, and the respective football federations for Spain and Argentina are urgently evaluating alternative venues before an approaching deadline to confirm a new location.

🚨 𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗜𝗡: There will be a Finalissima, but it won’t be in Qatar. Europe will almost certainly be the host continent.

In 48 hours, UEFA, CONMEBOL, and Qatar will decide. London, Rome and Milan are the favorites.

It could also be hosted in Africa in Morocco, Rabat.

With safety and logistics now at the forefront of decision-making, London has emerged as the current favorite to stage the Finalissima after Doha’s prospects dimmed. The city is seen as a logical choice, given its established infrastructure and history of hosting major finals.

Yet Morocco, especially Rabat, has also reportedly signalled its readiness to put itself forward as a viable alternative host. According to Reuters, the Moroccan football authorities officially offered to stage the match should Qatar’s bid fall through, placing Rabat among the locations under consideration.

This alternative would be a very viable one with the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. This modern venue, which seats around 70,000 spectators, was inaugurated a few months ago and has already demonstrated its capacity to host important international events as it was the chosen site for the 2025 AFCON final.

Beyond football, the stadium continues to attract significant global sporting events. It has been selected to host a Diamond League athletics meeting in May 2026. Furthermore, the venue is slated to host matches during the 2030 FIFA World Cup, proving its quality and readiness for world‑class fixtures in a major multi‑nation tournament.

Despite Morocco’s solid infrastructure and its official bid, there remain complex political and sporting considerations behind the scenes. Spain’s football federation reportedly did not endorse the Moroccan option, amid subtle tensions linked to the 2030 World Cup host selection, which Morocco will be co‑hosting with Spain and Portugal.

As of today, talks continue between UEFA, CONMEBOL, FIFA and the football federations involved, and the final decision on the Finalissima’s venue is expected by tomorrow.
