Morocco’s Council of Government has approved September 23 as the date for elections to the Chamber of Representatives, government spokesperson and Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament Mustapha Baitas announced Thursday in Rabat.
Baitas made the announcement following the weekly Cabinet meeting, confirming that the Council had approved Decree No. 2.26.190 setting the election date. The decree was presented by the Interior Minister and also establishes the timeline for candidate registration through a dedicated electronic platform.
The electoral campaign will open at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, and close at midnight on Tuesday, September 22 – the day before the vote.
The decree was issued in accordance with the organic law amending Law No. 27.11 on the Chamber of Representatives, promulgated under Dahir No. 1.11.165 of October 14, 2011, particularly its articles 21, 23, 28, and 31.
