Rabat—Promising PSV Eindhoven striker Sami Bouhoudane has officially decided to represent the Morocco national U20 football team instead of the Netherlands.

The decision was confirmed on March 5, and the news was reported by several major football sources, including journalist Fabrizio Romano. The 18-year-old forward opted to join Morocco’s youth setup despite repeated attempts from the Royal Dutch Football Association to keep him in the Dutch national team pathway.

His choice is a logical one, as Morocco’s U20 side currently holds the title of reigning world champions, making the project particularly appealing for emerging talents hoping to compete at the highest level of youth football.

Born in the Netherlands to Moroccan heritage, Bouhoudane had previously represented the Netherlands across several youth categories but ultimately chose to continue his international career with the Atlas Lions.

Currently part of the development system at PSV Eindhoven, Bouhoudane is seen as one of the most promising young forwards emerging from Dutch football. The striker has impressed during the 2025–26 season with notable attacking performances:

  • UEFA Youth League: 4 goals in 4 matches for PSV’s U19 side
  • Eerste Divisie: 5 goals in 12 appearances with the reserve team, Jong PSV

Standing out for his physical presence and finishing ability, Bouhoudane is often described as a complete and clinical striker. The forward has been part of the PSV academy since 2018, progressing steadily through the club’s youth ranks.

FRMF secures another dual-national talent

Bouhoudane’s choice represents another recruitment success for the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, which has increasingly focused on attracting highly rated dual-national players developed in European academies.

His decision follows a growing trend of players from the Moroccan diaspora opting to represent the Atlas Lions, similar to PSV midfielder Ismael Saibari.

With his rapid development and strong scoring form, Bouhoudane is expected to become an important part of Morocco’s future youth teams as the federation continues to build its next generation of talent. Bouhoudane could now play a role in helping the Atlas Cubs defend their global crown and go for a second consecutive U20 world title.
