Rabat – The Public Prosecutor at the Court of Appeal in Casablanca confirmed today that the death of a detainee, who jumped from a fourth-floor window at the police headquarters in February, was due to self-inflicted injuries.
The prosecutor issued a statement revealing details of investigations to determine the circumstances of the death of a man who jumped from the fourth-floor window at the headquarters of the National Judicial Police in Casablanca.
In February, statements from police said the man jumped in a suicide attempt. He was transferred to the hospital for sustaining serious injuries that led to his death.
In a separate statement on February 20, the prosecutor said an autopsy concluded that the man who jumped from the police headquarters died from complications of multiple traumatic injuries.
Today, the prosecutor’s office reiterated the findings, saying that they had questioned the police officers who were responsible for the investigation involving the deceased during the incident.
The prosecutor also inspected surveillance cameras as well as samples collected from the scene. The prosecutor said that the deceased deliberately jumped from the office window, which the surveillance footage confirmed and documented.
“This conclusion was corroborated by the medical autopsy report conducted on the deceased’s body by a remedial committee of forensic specialists,” the prosecutor said.
The report showed the deceased’s death resulted from complications due to injuries, including a fracture to the skull, facial bones, ribs, and femur, accompanied by cerebral hemorrhage.
The prosecutor identified that the pattern of injuries is consistent with the person having jumped from the fourth floor.
The statement concluded that analysis of samples taken from the deceased’s blood, stomach contents, and urine showed no presence of external chemical or biological substances.
“Scientific and technical analyses of the items found at the scene of the fall, compared with the biological traces on them, revealed a single genetic profile matching the deceased only, with no genetic material from any other person,” the statement said.
The case is closed due to the absence of a criminal element, the prosecutor concluded.
