Rabat – Strong thunderstorms, with the possibility of hail and strong winds, will hit several provinces across Morocco on Tuesday and Wednesday.
A new weather alert from the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) said thundery rainfall between 30 and 40 millimeters is expected on Tuesday and will continue until 8 a.m. across several Moroccan provinces.
The weather, accompanied by possible rain, will affect the provinces of M’diq-Fnideq, Tangier-Assilah, Ouezzane, Al Hoceima, Larache, Fahs-Anjra, Chefchaouen, and Tetouan.
The same weather will also affect Moulay Yacoub, Sefrou, Taounate, Fez, Meknes, El Hajeb, Ifrane, Sidi Slimane, Khemisset, Sidi Kacem, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Khenifra, and Al Haouz.
DGM also forecasts strong winds with blowing sand ranging from 80 to 100 kilometers per hour (km/h), and are expected on Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the provinces of Boulemane, Azilal, Ouarzazate, Midelt, and Tinghir.
The change in weather follows weeks of stable and sunny skies across Morocco.
From mid-November 2025 to February 2026, Morocco witnessed strong rainfall that affected many regions across the country.
The rainfall contributed to Morocco’s water reserves, reviving agriculture that had suffered seven years of drought.
The heavy rain, however, impacted several cities with floods, with authorities evacuating many regions that were declared as disaster zones.
Morocco’s current dams’ filling rate stands at 74.6% today, according to official data, compared to 38.37% recorded in the same period last year in 2025.
Current water volume stands at 12,83 million cubic meters.
