Marrakech – The Digital Development Agency of Morocco (ADD) and the Korea-Africa Foundation (KAF) signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement Wednesday at GITEX Africa 2026 to catalyze digital innovation and technological growth across their respective regions.

The agreement was signed by  Amine El Mezouaghi, Director General of the Digital Development Agency, and Ju Young Lee, Advisory Committee Chairman of the Korea-Africa Foundation.

This strategic partnership reflects a firm commitment to fostering knowledge-sharing
and translating the spirit of solidarity between Morocco and  South Korea into concrete digital initiatives.

The two institutions plan to build  a high-performance, inclusive digital ecosystem that will underpin  future economic growth.

This collaboration is designed to leverage the expertise and resources of both parties to support the growth of Africa’s digital society. It also seeks  to promote co-prosperity and modernize the economic landscape, with the use of digital  tools as a key driver of economic sustainability.

Under the terms of the agreement, several priority areas have been identified to ensure immediate impact. These include the acceleration of startups through cross-border “soft-landing” mechanisms and providing Moroccan innovators with enhanced access to Korean Venture Capital.

Through the agreement, ADD and KAF reaffirm their commitment  to make digital transformation a driver of modernization and to strengthen the long-term Morocco-South Korea relations by serving as a model for regulatory and technological cooperation between the two countries.

The relationship between Morocco and South Korea has moved well beyond cordial diplomacy since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1962. In recent years, bilateral relations have seen tangible progress, particularly in the areas of digital development and AI collaboration.

As of 2024, the total trade volume between Korea and Morocco reached around  $550 million. To further expand trade, the two sides signed a Joint Statement in June 2024 launching exploratory discussion on a trade and investment framework, such as an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), and committed to advancing talks to facilitate greater trade flows.

GITEX Africa 2026, held over three consecutive days, witnessed the signing of multiple strategic agreements during this major tech and digital event.
