Rabat – Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has received a new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner as part of its fleet expansion strategy.

Le360 reported today that it received the new airline on Friday at the Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca. The new delivery expands Royal Air Maroc’s fleet to 65 aircraft.

The number is a “historic record supported by an ambitious short and medium-term delivery program,” the news outlet said.

Royal Air Maroc is expected to receive more aircraft, expanding its fleet to a total of 74 aircraft by the end of this year.

The number is expected to reach 88 by 2027.

“This is an important delivery for us, especially since these aircraft were secured in a very tight market context, where it is particularly difficult to find available long-haul planes,” the head of the product and soft skills department at Royal Air Maroc, Doha El Atia, told Le360.

She said the new aircraft has new features, including a different cabin configuration and interior design.

“This configuration will undergo gradual adjustments to reach the target harmony. To this end, we are working on a global fleet harmonization project that will allow us to fully deploy Royal Air Maroc’s cabin identity across these aircraft,” she further explained.

In 2023, Royal Air Maroc announced the signing of a contract with Morocco’s government to increase the airline’s fleet of commercial aircraft.

As part of the 2023-2037 plan, the government pledges to support Morocco’s tourism and to position the North African country among the world’s major tourist destinations.

The contract aims to boost the number of Royal Air Maroc’s aircraft from 50 to 200 over the next 15 years.

This is as Morocco continues to strengthen the tourism sector, receiving nearly 20 million tourists last year. By 2037, Morocco aims to attract 65 million tourists.

As Morocco is hosting a prestigious event, the short-term ambition is to attract 26 million tourists by 2030, which will mark the start of the 2030 FIFA World Cup that the North African country, alongside Spain and Portugal, will co-host.
