Casablanca – Al Barid Bank reassured customers on Sunday after reports of a possible data leak began circulating online, saying its systems remain secure and no sensitive information has been compromised.

In a statement, the bank said initial technical investigations found that the data referenced in the alleged leak “does not carry a sensitive nature” and cannot be used to access customer accounts or bank cards. It added that all accounts and payment cards remain fully safe.

The response came after a post, claiming that a database of financial transaction logs linked to the bank had been obtained and put up for sale. The dataset was described as containing 2025 records, including instant transfer details, direct debit transactions, credit card issuance data, branch information, and phone numbers tied to internal identifiers.

While some cybersecurity observers noted that the sample circulating online appears structured in a way that resembles banking logs, the claims have not been independently verified. No official attribution has been made, and it remains unclear whether the data, if real, is complete or limited to a specific system environment.

Al Barid Bank said its teams are continuing technical checks to determine the origin and nature of the information being shared online. The bank also stressed that protecting customer data and transactions remains a top priority.

Even when not directly exploitable, transaction-type data can sometimes reveal patterns in user behavior, which experts say may be used in targeted scams.

In recent months, Morocco has seen a series of alleged cyber incidents affecting different institutions. The frequency of these claims is starting to raise broader questions about digital security and public trust in the country.
