Rabat – AS FAR finished top of the Botola Pro at the halfway stage after a 0-0 draw against RS Berkane.

The match, played as a game in hand from matchday 12, was enough to confirm them as autumn champions.

The game itself was tight and cautious. Few chances, a lot of tactical discipline. Berkane had the clearest early opening through Paul Bassène but couldn’t take it.

After the break, AS FAR thought they had done enough when Reda Slim scored, but referee Jalal Jiyed ruled it out for a foul earlier in the move on Yassine Lebhiri. That moment defined the match and nothing came after it.

AS FAR finished the first half of the season with 31 points, level with Maghreb de Fès but ahead on goal difference. Berkane are 5th with 26 points.

A decisive run across three fronts

This result closes one phase and opens a much bigger one. AS FAR now enter a decisive stretch of the season, competing on three fronts at the same time.

They reached the final of the CAF Champions League after eliminating Berkane in the semi-finals (2-0 first leg, 0-1 second leg). They will face Mamelodi Sundowns with the first leg on May 15 and the second one on May 24.

The target is a second continental title, after the historic 1985 win.

In the league, there’s no pause. The return phase starts immediately, with pressure already there. On April 26, an away match to US Yaakoub El Mansour, followed on April 30by a  top clash against Raja Casablanca in Rabat.

They’re first but the gap is small. Wydad and Maghreb de Fes are right there. They’re also still alive in the Coupe du Trone, with quarter-finals scheduled for mid-June.

To handle this run, the club moved in the winter window with the arrivals of Nolan Mbemba, Gaëtan Laura and Jalal-Eddine El Khfiyef.
