Rabat – Iran is offering to end its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz without addressing its nuclear program, according to two regional officials familiar with the proposal, Axios reported.

The offer comes as Iran’s foreign minister visits Russia, describing the trip as an opportunity to coordinate with Moscow on the ongoing war involving Israel and the US.

As part of the proposal, Iran is asking the US to lift its blockade, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the talks. The plan was reportedly passed to Washington through Pakistan, which has been acting as a mediator between the two sides.

However, the proposal is unlikely to gain support from US President Donald Trump. His administration has insisted that any broader agreement must include limits on Iran’s nuclear program, alongside reopening the Strait of Hormuz and securing a lasting ceasefire.

The strategic waterway has seen a sharp drop in traffic since the war began, with only a small number of ships passing through daily compared to normal levels. The disruption has raised concerns about global energy supplies and trade.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has blamed the failure of previous negotiations on what he called “excessive demands” from Washington. His visit to Russia signals Iran’s effort to strengthen ties with a key ally, both for political backing and potential military support.

Meanwhile, tensions continue across the region. Israeli forces have carried out new strikes in southern and eastern Lebanon, despite the ceasefire. They said they are targeting Hezbollah positions.

Hezbollah has rejected direct negotiations with Israel and says it will continue to respond to Israeli attacks. The renewed violence has forced many families in southern Lebanon to flee their homes again.

Meanwhile in the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces have conducted raids and detentions, while in Gaza, local reports say a Palestinian teenager was killed in an Israeli attack.
