Meknes – Liverpool are preparing a substantial bid for Barcelona’s defender Jules Koundé, with the French international a top summer target for the Reds, according to reports in Spain.
The 27-year-old’s future at Barcelona has become uncertain following mixed performances and questions over his role under manager Hansi Flick. While the club has not commented officially, they may need to sell a top player soon to improve their financial situation.
Liverpool are reportedly ready to offer Barcelona around $80 million to secure Koundé’s signature — a figure that could help Barcelona ease their budget concerns.
Koundé joined Barcelona in July 2022 from Sevilla for a fee of $50 million plus $10 million in add-ons. Although Chelsea also wanted to sign him, the French defender chose the Catalan side.
His start was delayed by the club’s financial issues, which made it hard to register him for matches. He finally made his debut in late August 2022, quickly becoming a key part of the team’s defense.
Although Koundé is protected by a $1 billion release clause, Barcelona’s financial issues mean they would likely listen to offers in the $80 million range.
The French international remains a vital part of Flick’s backline, yet his long-term future in Catalonia is far from certain. If a significant bid arrives, the defender could quickly become the key to solving Barcelona’s budget problems.
