Rabat – After a standout campaign with ESTAC Troyes, Moroccan striker Tawfik Bentayeb is pushing for a place in the national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking on May 11 during the UNFP Awards ceremony, where he was named in Ligue 2’s team of the season, Bentayeb admitted he is thinking about the Atlas Lions.
“Of course, I think about it. I had a good season, and I believe I’m a legitimate candidate for the squad. The coach will decide, but it’s been in the back of my mind all year,” said the 24‑year‑old forward.
Bentayeb joined Troyes on loan from Union Touarga and quickly became one of the most effective strikers in Ligue 2.
He finished as the league’s top scorer with 18 goals, playing a decisive role in Troyes’ promotion to Ligue 1.
His consistency and ability to deliver in key matches earned him recognition among France’s best performers in the division.
Born in Morocco, Bentayeb developed his game in local academies before moving to France.
