The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be scrutinized like never before after FIFA officially launched a Technical Study Group (TSG) tasked with analyzing every one of the 104 matches of the tournament.

The initiative is a first in World Cup history. FIFA moves toward deeper real-time tactical analysis and data-driven insights across its expanded 48-team competition.

The group is placed under the supervision of Arsène Wenger, FIFA’s Director of Global Football Development, and will be coordinated operationally by former Swiss international Pascal Zuberbühler and Tom Gardner.

A panel of global football figures

The TSG brings together 10 former international players and coaches from across the world.

Jürgen Klinsmann (Germany), Gilberto Silva (Brazil), Pablo Zabaleta (Argentina), Otto Addo (Ghana), Paulo Wanchope (Costa Rica), Tobin Heath (United States), Michael O’Neill (Northern Ireland), Jon Dahl Tomasson (Denmark), Aron Winter (Netherlands), Jayne Ludlow (Wales).

They will be supported by analysts, data engineers and performance specialists working from operational hubs in Miami, Dallas and Manchester.

Watching every detail of 104 matches

For the first time in World Cup history, every match will be studied in depth using advanced analytical tools.

Each game will be captured through six camera angles, feeding thousands of data points into systems designed to generate tactical indicators and real-time visual insights.

According to FIFA, the aim is to better understand how the game evolves during the tournament while also providing immediate analysis for broadcasters, coaches, and fans.

One of the important innovations is that fans will also gain access to selected tactical breakdowns during the tournament.

FIFA confirmed that live insights and analytical content will be shared through its digital platforms, including social media channels and the FIFA Technical Centre.

The group will also play a decisive role in selecting official individual awards at the end of the tournament, including the Golden Ball, Golden Glove and Best Young Player.
