Rabat – Sergio Ramos is set to become the new owner of Sevilla FC after reaching an agreement to buy the club on Tuesday. Spanish media report that the legendary defender, working alongside the investment group Five Eleven Capital, has struck a deal with the team’s main shareholders to finalize the takeover.

The deal is valued at approximately 400 million euros and accounts for 80% of the club’s shares, priced at an estimated 3,500 euros each, according to the Spanish outlet El Pais.

Before the takeover can be finalized, the transaction must undergo a formal review and receive official approval from both LaLiga and the Spanish National Sports Council.

This regulatory step is a standard requirement to ensure the deal complies with all financial and legal frameworks governing professional sports in Spain.

Since the 2001-02 season, Sevilla has been a constant fixture in the top flight of Spanish football. However, following a difficult run of form this year, the Andalusian side finds itself in an unfamiliar battle to avoid relegation.

The Spanish club currently sits in 13th place with 40 points after 35 matches. While the team struggled near the relegation zone for much of the season, a recent 2-1 win over Espanyol has kept them safe. They are now clear of the bottom three but will finish the year in the lower half of the table.

The 40-year-old began his professional career at Sevilla’s academy, quickly rising through the ranks to join the first team. He made his debut in 2004 and soon became one of the league’s most promising young defenders.

In 2005, Ramos joined Real Madrid in a record-breaking transfer of 27 million euros. This move followed a breakout season at Sevilla, where his early performance established the high market value that defined his career.

The Spanish defender helped Real Madrid secure 22 trophies, including four Champions League and five La Liga titles, before returning to Sevilla in 2023. Since his homecoming, he has made more than 30 appearances for the club and most recently played for the Mexican side Monterrey.
