Rabat – The murder of a female employee inside a money transfer agency in Casablanca has sparked outrage across Morocco, with many people demanding justice for the young woman who lost her life.

The crime happened Tuesday night in the Al Abrar neighborhood in the district of Moulay Rachid in Casablanca. According to local reports, the suspect, a 50-year-old owner of a money transfer shop linked to Cash Plus, allegedly killed a 29-year-old woman who worked for him inside the agency.

Early information suggested the attack may have been linked to robbery or sexual assault, but new details from sources close to the investigation point to an alleged personal relationship between the suspect and the victim.

Reports say the man wanted to marry the employee. However, he reportedly became emotionally distressed after discovering that she was in a relationship with another man closer to her age.

Witnesses said the suspect locked the agency from the inside before a violent argument broke out. The confrontation escalated and ended in tragedy when he fatally stabbed the woman. Authorities say he then attempted to take his own life and was found in critical condition when police arrived.

Residents in the area told local media they heard screams coming from inside the office before contacting emergency services. Police later found the victim dead at the scene.

The case has caused anger and sadness on Moroccan social media. Many users described the killing as another example of violence against women and called for stronger protection for female workers. Others criticized what they described as a culture that excuses possessiveness and toxic behavior in relationships.

Posts shared widely online demanded “justice for the victim” and called for strict punishment if the suspect survives. Several activists also urged authorities to treat the case as gender-based violence and not simply a “crime of passion.”

Moroccan authorities have opened an official investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor to determine all the circumstances surrounding the case.
