Agadir – The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) announced the commissioning of a second 225 kV Very High Voltage (VHV) line to strengthen electricity supply to the future needs of the Nador West Med (NWM) industrial-port complex.
In a statement, ONEE said the new infrastructure was energized on Sunday, May 24, as part of the strategic power supply program dedicated to the major port and industrial project in Morocco’s Oriental region.
The office explained that the new line intends to “strengthen the power supply system to cover the short and medium term needs of the Complex.”
The commissioning comes exactly one year after ONEE completed and energized the first 225 kV line in May 2025, marking what the institution described as “a second important step in the deployment of the overall power supply scheme for the port complex and its future industrial zones.”
ONEE noted that the project required the mobilization of “significant human and technical resources,” while highlighting the “constant support of the local authorities” in ensuring the infrastructure was delivered and put into service on schedule.
According to the statement, the second VHV line is expected to reinforce the security and reliability of electricity supply at Nador West Med as the complex prepares for the expansion of future port and industrial activities.
The office also stressed that the project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Morocco’s strategic electrical infrastructure and accompany industrial development in the eastern region of the country.
“Through this structuring project, ONEE confirms its commitment to the development of the Kingdom’s strategic electricity infrastructure and to supporting the economic and industrial dynamics of the Oriental region,” ONEE said.
The Nador West Med complex is considered one of Morocco’s flagship infrastructure projects, designed to boost industrial investment, logistics, and maritime connectivity in the Mediterranean region.
