Rabat – Morocco face Burundi today in a friendly match at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé, as the Atlas Lions continue their final preparation program before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The match is important for head coach Mohamed Ouahbi, who is expected to use it as a final evaluation before confirming his World Cup squad.

Morocco are preparing for Group C at the World Cup, where they will face Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti. Reuters reported that Morocco’s preparation program includes friendlies against Burundi, Madagascar, and Norway before the tournament.

Match details:

Fixture: Morocco vs Burundi
Competition: International Friendly
Venue: Mohammed VI Football Complex, Salé
Date: Tuesday, May 26
Kick-off: 4 p.m. Morocco time
How to watch: Arryadia

Morocco team news

Situation: This friendly comes at a decisive time for the national team. Morocco are not only looking for a positive result, but also for answers before the final World Cup list is confirmed. Ouahbi has already entered the last phase of preparation, with a training camp designed to test fitness, tactical discipline, and player readiness.

The Burundi friendly is being used as one of the last filters before the official squad announcement. The final list is expected to be confirmed today during a press conference at the Mohammed VI Football Complex.

Recent Form: Morocco arrive with confidence. Since Ouahbi took charge in March, the Atlas Lions drew 1–1 with Ecuador and beat Paraguay 2–1 in preparation matches.

Those games gave the new coach a first look at his squad under pressure and helped him identify areas that still need work before the World Cup.

Burundi team news

Situation: Burundi come into the match as the underdogs, but they can still give Morocco a useful test. Their main objective will be to stay organized, defend in numbers, and try to frustrate Morocco’s attacking rhythm.

Likely Approach: Burundi are expected to defend deep, close central spaces, and make the match physical. For Morocco, patience will be important.

What to expect

Morocco should dominate the ball and create most of the chances. The real question is not only the final score, but which players show enough quality, discipline, and personality to convince Ouahbi before the World Cup squad is finalized.

Prediction: Morocco 3-0 Burundi.
