Rabat – Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi said the Atlas Lions’ style of play at the 2026 World Cup will be close to what they showed in recent friendlies against Ecuador and Paraguay, but he insists he will not reveal his tactical plan before the tournament.
Asked about his approach in Tuesday’s press conference, Ouahbi joked: “Should I call Ancelotti to ask him how Brazil will play? I don’t think he would tell me, and I won’t reveal mine either. Opponents will study us carefully, and they will study me too.”
He explained that he prefers flexible tactical systems to rigid formations. “I like hybrid positioning and tactical variety. I don’t want a team stuck in one plan. I want players who know how to suffer when needed, avoid random mistakes, and attack with purpose when the moment comes.”

Ouahbi said Morocco’s World Cup style will resemble their last two matches more than their Africa Cup of Nations campaign. “We are not the same staff as before, and our approach is different. What we showed against Ecuador and Paraguay is closer to what we want now.”
Yet the coach stressed that Morocco must be adaptable depending on the opponent. “Our goal is to be effective. Playing Brazil does not mean defending for 90 minutes, and facing Scotland or Haiti does not mean attacking recklessly, ” he explained. “Brazil are very dangerous if you give them space. I want a team prepared for every possible scenario.”
Morocco will compete in Group C at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, alongside Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti.
The Atlas Lions open their campaign on June 13 against Brazil at MetLife Stadium, then face Scotland on June 19 at Gillette Stadium, before closing the group stage against Haiti on June 24 at Mercedes‑Benz Stadium.
The final pre-World Cup training camp begins on May 29, bringing the full squad together ahead of these tournament fixtures.
