Casablanca — King Mohammed VI received United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Rabat today as part of the Emirati leader’s private visit to Morocco, according to a statement from the Royal Cabinet.
The talks took place at the residence where Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed is staying during his visit to Morocco, which the Royal Cabinet described as his “second country.”
The meeting provided an opportunity for the two leaders to exchange views on a range of international and regional issues and discuss challenges facing the global landscape. Particular attention was given to developments concerning the Gulf states and the Middle East, the statement said.
The Royal Cabinet said the talks reflected the deep fraternal ties that have long united the leaders of the two countries and their royal families. It added that the meeting also took place within the framework of the strategic partnership, close cooperation, and solidarity that characterize relations between Morocco and the UAE.
Morocco and the UAE maintain strong political and economic ties and regularly coordinate on regional and international issues. The UAE has repeatedly expressed support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara and, in 2020, opened a consulate general in Laayoune.
Relations between Rabat and Abu Dhabi have also been marked by diplomatic coordination on regional security issues, with Morocco reaffirming its solidarity with the UAE and other Gulf states during the recent regional tensions involving Iran.
Morocco has been also among the countries that repeatedly condemned Iranian Attacks targeting Gulf countries, including the UAE and conveyed Rabat’s unwavering support for their territorial integrity and stability.
