Rabat – Alhamdou Ag Ilyene, the Malian Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, has commended Morocco’s diplomatic and political choices during the first Pan-African Media Forum.

Ilyene made his remarks on Wednesday in Bamako, recalling Morocco’s position against attacks on Malian officials in April.

Ilyene said Morocco stood out for its immediate condemnation of the events, stressing the importance of preserving the country’s security, unity and territorial integrity.

Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdoulaye Diop echoed the same remarks, hailing Morocco’s participation as guest of honor at the event.

He also emphasized Morocco’s economic growth, which represents a key pillar and major player in South-South cooperation.

The Malian minister said strengthened exchanges between African countries remain an essential lever for the continent’s co-development.

Mali endured a wave of attacks that hit several cities, targeting both civilian and military sites.

On April 25, Morocco expressed solidarity with Mali against the attacks that hit several cities.

A Moroccan diplomatic source said Morocco was following the situation with concern after violence was reported in Bamako and other areas, condemning the attacks and offering condolences to victims’ families.

The source also reiterated Morocco’s support for Mali’s authorities on security, stability, and territorial integrity.

On April 29, Morocco reiterated its support for the stability, sovereignty, and national unity of Mali.

Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita conveyed Morocco’s position during a press conference following a meeting with French US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.

He said Mali’s stability is fundamental to the broader region, condemning the attacks as “unacceptable.”
